Dual Substrate Labels
The Problem
An outdoor power equipment manufacturer needed two labels for each unit sold. The labels were of different substrates: a synthetic product identification label (model numbers, serial numbers, barcodes), along with the necessary hazard warnings and tamper-resistance features, and a matching paper shipping label. The packaging department constantly mismatched products with incorrect carton labels, creating an unsustainable situation for the manufacturer.
The Solution
Wise engineered a solution that combined both the synthetic product label and the paper shipping label on a common carrier that could be imprinted as a unit and presented to the packager together, thus eliminating the potential of a mismatch.
Implementation:
Wise designed a single carrier that incorporated both the synthetic label and the paper shipping label on a single carrier. This design allowed the necessary labels, including safety warnings, product identification, tamper-evident features, and the matching shipping label, to be printed together as one unit. When presented to the packaging department, the labels were positioned next to one another, reducing the possibility of mismatches.
This solution streamlined the labeling process and helped ensure consistency across every piece of equipment. At the packaging stage, workers applied the complete label set together.
Results:
The unified label carrier delivered measurable results:
- Error reduction: Mismatched labels during packaging were eliminated, resolving the primary pain point experienced by the customer.
- Regulatory and safety consistency: Required warnings and product-identification information appeared consistently and prominently on every unit.
- Streamlined operations: The simplified printing and packaging process improved efficiency and reduced errors.
Wise’s engineered label solution helped the print distributor deliver a better outcome for their equipment-manufacturer customer while improving accuracy, efficiency, and consistency.
