Meet Diane Mathews!
Call customer service at the Portland, ME plant, and you’re likely to talk to someone whose lineage tracks all the way to the Mayflower.
Diane Matthews, who has worked at Wise for 12 years, is a tenth-generation Mainer whose passion for genealogy has uncovered some uncanny connections, not just to the Mayflower, but to other Mainers as well. “It’s amazing how connected we are if you just go back far enough,” she says.
Diane is a sleuth at heart. She loves mystery and science fiction novels, newspaper crosswords, picture puzzles, and anything else that brings order out of chaos. Which is probably why she’s so good at her job.
“Customers often don’t know what they need, and you have to help them figure it out,” she says. Her understanding of detail almost makes her seem clairvoyant sometimes. She recalls one customer who called and said, “I need that blue form.” She laughs. “The funny thing is, I knew exactly what he was talking about!”
