Case Study

Invoice Obsolescence

The Challenge

A national pest control company had a significant issue with inventory obsolescence of their invoices. The company does business in all 50 states, with field technicians performing pest mitigation and then providing the customer with a pre-printed invoice on site.

The challenge was that the regulations governing the chemicals used in its pest control services varied by state. Those regulations were constantly being revised, so the terms and conditions backer on its invoices was continually going out of date. This created a massive inventory management and obsolescence problem for the company.

The Solution

Find a way to print the invoices in the field by the technician. The distributor recommended that the pest control company move to a print-on-demand system.

The files are now housed exclusively at the pest control company’s main office and updated as needed. The technician carries a printer in the service truck along with a laptop. When the technician is done with the service, he or she goes to the truck and loads the invoice (which is always up to date) into the laptop. The invoice is printed on site, with the most current version of the terms and conditions, so no invoices need to be thrown away.

The Result

For this distributor’s customer, invoice obsolescence is now a thing of the past. The order is approximately $25,000 annually. Even better, the customer has signed a three-year contract with the distributor for all of its print and promotional needs. This contract represents revenue in excess of $200,000 annually.
