Case Study

Inventory Unit Set Barcoded Forms

The Challenge

A regional distribution company had moved into a new facility. The company had been using an inventory system that included a unique barcode that matched up to the inventory part number. On a monthly basis, the warehouse personnel would scan the barcodes to quickly take a cycle count inventory. This system worked well until the company moved to the new facility where the shelving was three racks high versus two racks high. The company’s barcode readers were not strong enough to read the barcodes on the third rack. After having just made the major financial investment in a move, it was not ready to purchase new readers.

The distribution company reached out to its print supplier for help, but the existing supplier was not able to come up with another solution. The transportation company went looking for another partner

The Solution

The transportation company reached out to a Wise distributor, who went to the customer location. Multiple approaches were tried, but no solution using the existing scanners was found.

The distributor got creative and came up with an interim solution. Working with Wise, the distributor suggested adding an incremental jumbo number that would be easily visible for the warehouse personnel. If the barcode couldn’t be read, the number could still be keyed into the scanner manually.

The Result

This short-term fix allowed the customer to maintain efficiency and accuracy as its business grows and the third rack gets more and more use. The customer appreciated that, unlike its previous supplier, the Wise distributor came up with a creative solution. The distributor is now entrenched in the account and poised to significantly grow their business.
