The Challenge
A regional transportation company had recently acquired a competitor, strategically positioning itself for significant growth over the coming years. However, the company’s existing system and its recently acquired system could not share data to push to the customer when both assets were used for the same customer. As a result, customer loads were being misplaced for periods of time which, ultimately, led to customer dissatisfaction As a result, the acquisition that was designed to drive new business opportunities was resulting in lost revenue.
The Solution
The distributor coordinated with the IT departments of both transportation companies to identify the information that could be imported. It was determined that, by using a barcode, the information could be pushed to an interface that provided visibility on a website so the customer could view their shipments regardless of which transportation brand initiated the shipment.
The Result
The result was that the information required became available not only to the customer but to the transportation companies themselves. Customer satisfaction improved significantly, and revenue growth began to follow. Since that time, the transportation company has acquired yet another competitor and implemented the same system. The distributor order is now valued at over $100,000 per year.
