Education Document Security Forms

The Challenge

A community college in the Southwestern U.S. was having issues with counterfeit transcripts.
The issue was twofold:

  • Fraudulent information. Creative students were altering their grades on their transcripts. Then they were using these falsified transcripts for employment screening and transferring to other schools.
  • Lost revenue. The community college has a $15 charge for each transcript. Every time a transcript was copied, this meant lost revenue for the college.

The Solution

The distributor met with the community college to better understand the problem. The transcripts were being altered (i.e. grade changes, hours completed) and duplicated (i.e. copied to send to multiple locations). The distributor provided a solution that included security features to protect against alteration and duplication of the document.

In all, six security features were added to each transcript:

  1. Chemical indicator stains (alteration)
  2. TonerFuse® (alteration)
  3. True Fourdrinier Watermark (duplication)
  4. Visible and invisible fibers (duplication)
  5. Warning border (duplication)
  6. Colored pantograph (duplication)

The Result

The distributor secured a $1,000 order from the community college. Transcript revenue increased more than 50%, and the college now sees minimal counterfeiting.
