RX Pads Collage

The state of Massachusetts currently follows federal requirements for prescription pads as set forth by the CMS. On July 1, 2013, a new state law took effect, requiring Massachusetts’ physicians to use tamper-resistant prescription pads for all written prescriptions, for all drug schedules, including Schedule VI. These tamper-resistant pads must meet the federal requirements for writing Medicaid prescriptions on tamper-resistant pads, which have been in effect since 2008.

State Requirements

All states are required to meet the baseline standards set forth by the CMS. Several states have Prescription Monitoring Programs that require prescription pads to have specific security features.
